I’m not a big fan of workplace jargon, as I feel like there are some overused buzzwords that too often replace the distinctive core values companies should be striving for. The phrase “diversity” is sometimes overused, for example.
The intention behind the phrase’s use in the business world are good--a diverse workplace means a broader array of viewpoints contribute to every decision made. This is obviously an important factor in delivering a well-rounded product or service.
In the modern office culture lexicon, though, it seems like some companies simply slap “hot terms” like “diversity” onto their core value statements without fully understanding why they’re even doing so.
I have observed, however, that at Innolux workplace diversity is much more than just a buzzword to fill out a mission statement. In fact, it’s a necessary cornerstone of this business in particular.
The main reason diversity is crucial at IGA is that well-rounded knowledge is so key to our purpose as a business. The footwear industry is extremely complex and involves countless aspects, between OEM and ODM design, global sourcing, last manufacturing, shoe construction, and all the countless nuances they entail. No one person can excel at all of them, and even a group would have trouble if they all think the same way and cannot bring different workplace mindsets to the table. Innolux has understood this from its origins as a company, and it shows in its workforce -- experts in their respective fields from all different cultural backgrounds and with varying skill sets than span the footwear development and manufacturing sectors.
Apart from being a heavily knowledge-driven enterprise, a major reason workplace diversity is especially important to IGA is because we are a global business. We serve bands from all over the world, and we work from a market literally foreign to almost all of them. Because Innolux works with so many markets and has to familiarize itself with countless different ways of approaching the footwear business, it is of the utmost importance we have a wide variety of mindsets at work. By ensuring this is the case, we elevate the footwear we make with our clients above what you could find produced by any team of a single nationality or culture, and we can translate this benefit to any client we may work with, regardless of where they’re from.
Innolux already comprises team members from 14 nationalities. Our head offices are based in Ho Chi Minh City, but we have employees as far away as Europe and the United States. IGA’s vast business contact network around Eurasia also contributes to our uniquely international flair, and that is not even taking into account our clientbase. We plan to continue to expand our cultural horizons even more in the years to come.
