Fall back in love with ankle straps
October 22, 2014
I know what you’re thinking: “Ankle straps? No way, they make my legs look short and hefty!” This can be true, especially when you wear ankle straps or sandals with longer skirts and dresses. The reality, though, is that this isn’t really the issue. If you’re wearing a long skirt or dress, chances are your legs are not on view anyway, and your shoes will only create the image of hefty legs it they themselves are hefty looking.
The truth is, ankle straps have many positive attributes: They’re stylish; they can add a little ‘zing’ to an otherwise pedestrian or classic shoe style; and, pay attention girls, they can actually call attention to the slimmest part of your legs. Time to review your opinion!
To help you make up your mind, let’s have a look at some hot ankle strap styles.
Pretty evening shoes from Miu Miu
Need a pair of ankle strap heels that are more timeless than trendy? Take a look at these beautiful evening shoes from Miu Miu (available from http://www.net-a-porter.com - £465). The dramatic height of the 4 inch, cone heel give this pair a contemporary silhouette. The zipped back and ankle strap ensure a secure fit.
Try wearing them during the day too, with a shift dress and chain bag!
Striking and Contemporary Styling
The chunky heels prevalent this year are great for those of us who like a bit of extra height but aren’t fully au fait with really high stilettos. One of my favourite chunky heels this year are these contemporary ankle straps from Michael Kors (Michael Kors Collection Phaedra. Available from zappos.com $525)
The 3 3/4 inch heels are just high enough to give you some height but not too high so as to give you vertigo because they're not offset by any platform soles. I personally love the black and white combination but it’s worth noting that they are also available with all black uppers. It’s tough to choose a favourite!
Low heeled dress pumps
These low heeled dress pumps from Nine West Knowledge (available from zaps.com - $99) are a great example of a classic looking shoe that is both stylish and easy to wear.
These three inch heeled, satin upper pumps are perfect for dinner or a night out and they look far more expensive than their £99 price tag.
