The most expensive shoe brands
August 28, 2014
It was in the hit TV show, Sex and the City that Carrie Bradshaw famously said “I've spent $40,000 on shoes and I have no place to live? I will literally be the old woman who lived in her shoes!” If you’ve ever watched a show like MTV Cribs or any other reality show based around celebrity lifestyles, you’ll already know that the rich and famous spend more on shoes than most of us make in a year, and that these shoes are usually housed in huge closets bigger than the average apartment.
But exactly how much are these shoe collections worth? Whilst we’ll never get to add up the receipts for any individual celebrity’s hoard of shoes, it’s worth having a look at how much some of the most expensive brands of shoes sell for in order to get an idea.
According to research conducted by financeonline.com, the third most expensive shoe brand is Jimmy Choo. A favourite with the Hollywood elite, it is frequently the shoe of choice for red carpet appearances. Jimmy Choos range in price from the upper hundreds, to a couple of thousand US dollars. The most expensive of Jimmy Choos “Iconic” 2011 collection sold for $3,785.
Manolo Blahnik comes in at second place in financeonline’s survey. With its increasing popularity, it’s hard to believe this brand was originally scorned for being against fashion trends when it first appeared in the seventies. With exotic production materials driving up the cost, some of the most expensive Manolo Blahniks are the Blixa alligator, which are of course made with alligator skin. These shoes can be purchased at Barney's in NYC for a mere $4,600
The coveted number one spot for the most expensive shoe brand goes to… Louis Vuitton! A household name in elite circles, Louis Vuitton products are highly regarded, not only for their trendiness, but for their high quality craftsmanship. Hardly surprising considering the brand has been around since 1854. The most expensive Louis Vuitton shoes to ever sell were in fact men’s shoes. Manhattan Richelieu Men’s Shoes, released in 2010, sell for a whopping $10,000.
Believe it or not though, the Manhattan Richelieu shoes are not the most expensive shoes on earth. That coveted title belongs to House Of Harry Winston’s “Ruby Slippers” (pictured here on the left. Image source: listcrown.com)
In 1989, celebrated American jewellery designer Harry Winston’s son Robert wished to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the classic movie The Wizard of Oz in his own ostentatious style with a recreation of the iconic “Ruby Slippers”. It took two months to carefully craft a pair of shoes out of four thousand and six hundred rubies and fifty carats of diamonds. After about sixty days, the opulent heels, glittering in all their glory, were unveiled at the House of Harry Winston – accompanied by a price tag of no less than $3 million, earning them the honour of being most expensive shoes in the world!
