The Virtual Shoe Museum: every shoe lover’s dream escape
August 16, 2014
Is there one place where a visitor can see hundreds of some the most amazing and fashion-forward shoes anywhere on the planet?
The website is the brainchild of the Dutch graphic designer Liza Snook who wanted to offer the public an exhibition which would be modern, constantly updated and accessible anywhere in the world. The virtual collection avoids the many pitfalls of physical exhibits, such as limited viewing times, crowded spaces, poor lighting and inadequate styling.
Updated daily, beautifully photographed shoe specimens can be viewed by type, style, colour or material. Items vary from fashionable to historical to outlandish couture. Each visitor can choose his own virtual route into the museum.
At the moment, there are over 1,000 images of footwear from around the world, all with informative captions. An online store is in the works.
The Virtual Museum also functions as a way to communicate between designers, manufacturers and shoe lovers. It is currently promoting the Palette series, a platform that allows collaboration, sharing and creative design.
The many wonders of The Virtual Museum can be accessed by visiting www.virtualshoemuseum.com.
