The 4th India International Leather Fair Showcases the Successes of the Country’s Leather Industry
July 4, 2014
The India International Leather Fair 2014 – a major event in the leather industry – is currently taking place at the India Trade Promotion Organization in New Delhi.
From Thursday, July 3 until this Saturday, the fourth annual event is showcasing a wide range of products relating to the country’s growing leather industry, with a specific focus on shoe production.
Visitors will have an opportunity to peruse various stalls and exhibits that display all stages of the shoe-making process, from raw materials to finished products. Product coverage includes shoe components, such as soles, heels, counters and lasts. Guests can also view the elements of the production process: chemicals and adhesives, machinery and equipment, and process technology. Materials on display feature finished leather as well as synthetic leatherite.
The leather industry has become an important sector of India’s economy, currently employing 2.5 million people. In recent years, India’s export of leather and leather products in India has grown tremendously, and today, the country is the second largest producer of footwear and leather garments in the world, with trade worth US$ 160 billion.
Reflecting this strength in leather and shoe production, the fair is expected to draw 200 participants, with exhibits featuring over 150 companies, including more than 50 from outside India.
